Morwenstow Football Club

Morwenstow Football Club was founded in 1946 and has grown to become one of the most respected clubs in North Cornwall. We were one of the first local clubs to achieve FA Charter Standard Club status, and that “kitemark” is now the nationally accepted benchmark for clubs who are managed effectively from a number of perspectives – organisationally, financially and environmentally.

The club currently runs two adult teams in local leagues, and has a thriving youth section with more than 100 children regularly playing football and teams in virtually every age group. The raison d’etre of our youth policy is that the children learn and play football in a safe, fun and friendly environment, where they learn not only football skills but also the values of team work and good behaviour. The aim is to have at least two qualified coaches for each age group. Pre-requisites to become a coach include training in Emergency Aid, and in safeguarding children in sport and, of course, DBS checked. As such we are adamant to adopt ‘best practice’ in dealing with the children involved with the club.

In addition, we have recently introduced “walking football” for the over-50’s. This activity is fast becoming a national phenomenon, and is an excellent activity for ageing footballers, and others, to keep fit, and remain involved with the sport.

The club is blessed by having a dedicated band of volunteers to undertake the numerous roles and activities to ensure our on-going success. Nevertheless, we always have room for more people to get involved – everyone will have at least one skill that would be useful to us!
